Game 1: Seton Hall 6, Marist 3
How it Happened
- After Marist struck first in the opening inning, the Pirates responded with a five spot in the second. Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.) opened the scoring with an RBI single to tie the score at 1-1. Next, Caye ripped a two-run single to center to give the Pirates their first lead.
- Later in the second, Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) tapped a single through the left side to bring home Blevins with the fourth Pirate run. Caye would score the fifth run of the inning on a wild pitch to bring the Pirates' advantage up to 5-1.
- The Red Foxes got a run back in the third to pull within three, but Seton Hall would respond in the fourth. Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) stepped up with the bases loaded and ripped a single to right field to make it a 6-2 game.
- Marist brought one run across in the seventh, bringing the tying run to the plate in a 6-3 game. Babik was able to seal the deal by inducing a groundout to shortstop to end the game.
- The Pirates earn their 30th win of the season, reaching that mark for the first time since 2005.
- Caye got the start in center field, going 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored on the day.
- Babik pitched all seven innings, allowing just one earned run en route to picking up her ninth win of the season.
- Olivia Gilbert (Johnston, R.I.), Erin Howard (Skillman, N.J.) and Blevins joined Caye as having multi-hit afternoons for the Pirates.
How it Happened
- The Red Foxes jumped out to an early 2-0 advantage in the first inning, but the Pirates would get on the board in the third as Lela Allen (Phoenix, Ariz.) hit an RBI double to right.
- Marist would respond with four runs in the third and five in the fourth to pull ahead for good.
- The Pirates grabbed two more runs in the fifth, as Allen singled home a run and Gilbert scored on a passed ball. However, the Pirates were unable to trim the deficit to seven or fewer to extend the game past the fifth inning.
- Caroline Hobbes (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made her first career start, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
- Allen picked up two hits and drove in a pair of runs, while Hill also had a pair of hits and scored a run.
The Pirates return home on Wednesday afternoon for a doubleheader against Fairleigh Dickinson at 2 p.m. Seton Hall will be celebrating its Pink Game, and fans can pick up pink ribbons and stickers as well as donate to Susan G. Komen. Pirate softball alum and two-time breast cancer survivor Frances Perullo '85 will throw out the ceremonial first pitch.
