Trenton, N.J. — The pitching staff for the Seton Hall baseball team allowed only four hits while senior David Haberman (Morristown, N.J.) and freshman Jedier Hernandez (Trenton, N.J.) tallied two RBI a piece as they lifted the Pirates to a 6-0 midweek win over Wagner at Trenton Ballpark on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Aaron Groller (Harleysville, Pa.) earned his third career win after going three innings and allowing two base hits. Sophomore Zane Probst (Mill Hall, Pa.) closed the door on the win with two strikeouts in the ninth.
Redshirt sophomore Will Gale (Scotch Plains, N.J.) returned to the lineup for The Hall where he went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
How It Happened
The Pirates were scoreless in the top of the first but got on the board in the top of the second inning. With one out, Gale reached on a single to right field and moved to second based after senior Alex Clyde (Old Tappan, N.J.) walked. Hernandez, a Trenton native, stepped to the plate and ripped a 1-1 pitch to the right center field gap, clearing the bases and giving the Pirates a 2-0 lead.
Groller worked out of a bases loaded jam in the home half of the second inning before retiring the side in order in the third. Freshman Jake Potts (Glen Mills, Pa.) was the first Seton Hall hurler out of the bullpen and he sat the Seahawks down in order in the fourth. In the top of the fifth inning, an infield single off the bat of junior Mark McNelly (Limerick, Pa.) drove in a run and an RBI groundout for junior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) extended the Seton Hall advantage to 4-0.
The bullpen continued to do its job and the Pirates tacked two key insurance runs on a two-run double off the bat of Haberman in the top of the eighth. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth, Probst was called from the bullpen and struck out both batters he faced to seal the victory.
