
Pesky Defense Leads The Hall To Win At Xavier

CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Seton Hall women's basketball team (10-7, 2-4 BIG EAST) used a tenacious defensive effort to notch a 62-51 win at Xavier (8-8, 1-4) on Wednesday night at the Cintas Center. The Pirates forced 25 turnovers in the win and totaled 16 steals.
Donnaizha Fountain (Roxbury, Mass.) led The Hall on the offensive end in the win with 17 points and tied for the game-high with seven rebounds. Fountain was one of three Pirates in double-figures, joined by Taylor Brown (Paterson, N.J.) and JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas) who each scored 10.
The Pirates led for more than 35 minutes in the contest, but didn't open up a double-digit lead until late in the fourth quarter. The Hall took a three-point lead to the halftime break and was up five after three quarters.
Turning Point
The Musketeers pulled within four early in the fourth quarter, cutting the Seton Hall lead to 51-47 with a 3-pointer at the 7:18 mark of the final frame. The Hall answered emphatically, getting a 3-pointer from Nicole Jimenez (Miami, Fla.) and back-to-back buckets from Fountain and Selena Philoxy (Queens, N.Y.) to rattle off a 7-0 run and go up 58-47 with 4:53 to play. The Hall was able to maintain that lead through the rest of regulation, holding Xavier to nine points in the decisive fourth quarter.

The Pirates are back in action at home on Friday night when they play host to Villanova for a 7 p.m. tip at Walsh Gym.
