Pirates Rally For Epic Comeback Win At Princeton
9/7/2017 8:49:00 PM | Men's Soccer
Princeton took a 1-0 lead to the break with a goal late in the first and added two more early in the second, expanding its edge to 3-0 in the 51st minute. Marco Neves (Tracy, Calif.) got The Hall's rally started with his first goal of the season in the 58th minute, before Arcila tallied to cut the lead to one in the 67th minute.
Turning Points
Down 3-2 in the waning moments of regulation, Jonathan Jimenez (Cape Coral, Fla.) made a run deep into Princeton territory before being taken down just wide of the penalty area. With six seconds left on the clock, Arcila swung in a free kick that was deflected by Nick Najera (Laguna Hills, Calif.) before Spencer Burkhardt (Palmyra, Pa.) jammed it past the Princeton keeper for an equalizer at 89:57 to force extra time.
After a scoreless first overtime period, both teams had prime chances for a winner in the second extra period with the Pirates converting the latter. Princeton generated a free kick in the 104th minute, setting up a blast from outside the area that was blocked by the Pirate defenders and cleared. Less than a minute later Jose Andres Veizaga (Santa Cruz, Bolivia) drew a foul at the top edge of the box. Arcila stepped up for the free kick and lofted a perfect chip into the left side netting to finish off the comeback with a golden goal winner.
