Pirates Announce 2016-17 Non-Conference Schedule
8/1/2016 10:00:00 AM | Men's Basketball
South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall men's basketball team's 2016-17 non-conference schedule is now available and features at least seven matchups against teams that advanced to postseason play in 2015-16, including four NCAA Tournament squads. The Pirates potentially could play up to nine games against 2015-16 postseason teams.
The schedule includes five home dates, four at Prudential Center and one at historic Walsh Gymnasium. The Pirates regular season opener takes place Friday, Nov. 11 at Walsh Gymnasium against defending NEC Tournament champion Fairleigh Dickinson. Tickets to the Fairleigh Dickinson game will go on sale exclusively to season ticket holders on Thursday, Sept. 1, and the price per seat is $35. Any remaining seats available after the season ticket holder exclusivity period will go on sale to the general public on Monday, Oct. 17.
The other four home non-conference games, all at Prudential Center, are Nov. 13 vs. Central Connecticut, Dec. 1 against defending CollegeInsider.com Tournament champion Columbia, Dec. 17 vs. Delaware and the Dec. 23 Garden State Hardwood Classic matchup with rival Rutgers. Season tickets that include the four non-conference home games at Prudential Center are currently on sale for as low as $153 per seat (plus a $50 donation to Pirate Blue).
As previously announced, the Pirates will be participating in exciting tournaments this upcoming season. For the first time, Seton Hall is in the Gavitt Games, a unique early-season series played between the BIG EAST Conference and the Big Ten Conference, named in honor of Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and a basketball visionary. The Pirates will play at Iowa on Nov. 17.
The Hall will be a participant in the 2016 AdvoCare Invitational, an ESPN Events tournament in Orlando, Fla., that features five programs that advanced to postseason play in 2015-16, including the BIG EAST champion Pirates, three NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen participants in Gonzaga, Iowa State and Miami, and NIT quarterfinalist Florida. Among those five 2015-16 postseason teams, the average win total last year was 24.8, the average RPI ranking was 26.4 and the average Kenpom rating was 22. The Pirates will first take on the Florida Gators on Thanksgiving Night, Nov. 24, and then face either Gonzaga or Quinnipiac on Nov. 25 before playing either Indiana State, Iowa State, Miami or Stanford on Nov. 27. Pirates fans interested in traveling to Orlando can purchase the Pirate Blue Orlando Travel Package.
Seton Hall will travel nearly 5,000 miles to participate in a special FOX Sports tournament, the 2016 Pearl Harbor Invitational in Honolulu, Hawai'i, which will raise awareness and help pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives in the Imperial Japan attack on Pearl Harbor, which occurred on Dec. 7, 1941. The venue for the tournament is Bloch Arena, which hosted Elvis Presley in a fundraising concert for the USS Arizona Memorial in 1961. The Pirates will take on Hawai'i on Dec. 6 and then play California on Dec. 7, which will be the 75th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. Fans interested in attending the Pearl Harbor Invitational should contact the Pirate Blue office at (973) 275-6447.
After returning from Honolulu, the Pirates will head to the world's most famous arena, Madison Square Garden, to participate in the inaugural Under Armour Reunion, a doubleheader that will pit schools from Under Armour's leading roster of collegiate basketball teams against each other. The Dec. 12 doubleheader will feature Seton Hall vs. South Carolina and Auburn vs. Boston College. Tickets for the Under Armour Reunion are on sale now.
The full 2016-17 schedule that includes BIG EAST Conference matchups, as well as game times and television assignments, will be released at a later date by the conference. Below is a snapshot of Seton Hall's non-conference opponents:
