Pirates Notch Comeback Win Over Wake Forest

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Rallying from a double-digit halftime deficit, the Seton Hall women's basketball team knocked off Wake Forest by a score of 70-63 on Sunday afternoon at Walsh Gymnasium. Lubirdia Gordon (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) set a career-high with 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while LaTecia Smith (Gardenia, Calif.) also set a new personal best with a game-high 19 points.
After a slow shooting start and a turnover-riddled first half, the Pirates trailed by as many as 16 in the first quarter and were down 32-21 at halftime. The Hall stormed back emphatically with a huge third quarter and held on with some clutch free throw shooting in the fourth quarter. After turning the ball over 19 times in the first half, The Hall gave it up only four times in the second while forcing a total of 28 Wake Forest turnovers.
Turning Points
Down 11 entering the third quarter, the Pirates opened what would be a 23-6 quarter with a 14-2 run that gave the Pirates its first lead of the day at 35-34 with 3:31 to play in the frame. Gordon scored eight of her points during the run, going 6-for-6 from the stripe during the rally. After Wake Forest regained the lead in the final minute of the quarter, Claire Lundberg (Andover, Minn.) knocked down a 3-pointer and Deja Winters (Richmond Heights, Ohio) hit four-straight from the stripe to give the Pirates a 44-38 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.
The Demon Deacons would battle back, leveling the contest at 49-49 with 5:47 to play in regulation. The Hall answer with a Smith jumper and a three-point play from JaQuan Jackson (Killeen, Texas), before another bucket from Smith capped a 7-0 run and made it 56-49 with 3:37 remaining. Wake Forest would pull no closer than five the rest of the way, with Smith going 5-for-6 from the line in the final minute to seal the victory.

- The Pirates came away with the victory despite being out-shot 41.7 eprcent to 35.2 percent from the floor and out-rebounded 42-32 overall
- Four Pirates scored in double-figures: Smith (19), Gordon (15), Jackson (12) and Kaela Hilaire (11)
