ITHACA, N.Y. - Sophomores Julia Keenan (Greenland, N.H.) and Alex Landert (Naples, Fla.) capped a three-day run in B doubles with a title match victory on Sunday at the Cornell Winter Invitational, cruising to a 6-1 win over the Army Duo of Caroline Lorenzini and Hayley O'Connor.
All three of Keenan and Landert's wins came over teams representing the Black Knights - the six-time reigning Patriot League champions and one of the Pirates' scheduled dual match opponents next week in West Point, N.Y.
With the result, the two sophomores improved to 4-1 as a team in 2013-14 with two of their wins coming by at least a five-game margin.
The tandem of Hannah Liljekvist (Djursholm, Sweden) and Madison Shoemaker (Halfmoon Bay, British Columbia) added another victory in the doubles backdraw, besting the Binghamton pair of Annie DiMuro and Sarah Kohtz by a score of 6-3.
It was the second victory in the backdraw for Liljekvist and Shoemaker as the two teamed up to down Army's Gabby Spindler and Taler Brazell, 6-1, after exiting the A doubles main draw in the first round. Together, the two have won four of their last five matches and now hold an 8-4 record for the year.
The efforts close a weekend that saw Seton Hall make five semifinal appearances across five flights of competition in their final open tournament prior to the start of the dual match portion of its schedule.
After posting a total of nine wins over representatives of Army and Binghamton during the tournament, The Hall will travel to the United States Military Academy to go head-to-head with the Black Knights and Bearcats over two days next weekend. Seton Hall and Army will meet on Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m. followed by a meeting with Binghamton the next morning at 9 a.m.
