SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall freshman Jaren Sina (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) was named the BIG EAST’s Rookie of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Pirate to earn the award since 2010. Sina averaged 8.0 points and shot 53.3% from the field helping Seton Hall (4-2) win two of its three games last week.
Sina poured in 13 points shooting 4-for-5 from three-point range Saturday to help lift Seton Hall to a 68-67 victory over Virginia Tech at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic. He buried three consecutive three-pointers within a 1:25 stretch to power a 14-3 Seton Hall run that erased a double digit deficit in the first half.
The 6-2 guard earned his first career start last Monday in the Pirates’ 82-66 victory over Monmouth at the Prudential Center. Sina scored seven points and handed out a season-high three assists against the Hawks. In Seton Hall’s three games, Sina averaged 2.0 assists and shot 50% (5-10) from downtown.
