SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men’s basketball team had its fifth player earn a BIG EAST weekly award this season as red-shirt senior Brian Oliver (Glassboro, N.J.) was named to the Honor Roll on Monday. Oliver averaged 15.0 points shooting 61.5% (8-13) from 3-point territory to go along with a team-high 5.0 rebounds as the Pirates went 1-1 in BIG EAST action last week. It is the fifth straight week a Seton Hall player has been named to the Honor Roll and a different Pirate has received the award the last four weeks.
Oliver poured in a team-high 18 points and shot 7-for-14 from the field playing 45 minutes in the Pirates’ 81-80 double-overtime victory at Providence on New Year’s Eve. The 6-foot-7 guard went 4-of-7 from 3-point territory, grabbed five rebounds and made three steals to help power The Hall past the Friars. Then on Saturday versus Creighton, Oliver notched 12 points going 4-for-6 from downtown in his fifth straight double-digit scoring performance.
Creighton’s Doug McDermott was named BIG EAST Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Villanova’s Josh Hart was selected Rookie of the Week. D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera (Georgetown), Davante Gardner (Marquette), JayVaughn Pinkston (Villanova) and Semaj Christon (Xavier) also earned Weekly Honor Roll recognition.
Seton Hall (10-5, 1-1) returns to action Wednesday when the Pirates host #8/#10 Villanova (13-1, 2-0). Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. with the contest airing live on CBS Sports Network. The Hall’s radio broadcast can be heard on 970 AM (WNYM).
