Dermon Player enters his fourth year as assistant coach at Seton Hall.Player’s ties and roots to New York City have and will continue to pay huge dividends for head coach Bobby Gonzalez and the Pirates on the recruiting trail.His basketball acumen will be a great asset on the court as well.
Player brings tremendous experience to SHU after serving as the athletic director at WadleighHigh School in New York and as the Director of Basketball Operations and Head Coach of the Metro Hawks, a traveling AAU basketball program based in Manhattan.Player also has experience as an assistant coach on the BIG EAST level, having worked at St. John’s from 1998-04 where his duties included scouting, game preparation, recruiting and film exchange, among many other duties.
Player was an assistant varsity basketball coach from 1993-98 at powerhouse RiceHigh School in New York City, where he scouted opponents and ran practices and game preparation.He was also the Athletic Director and Head Coach at The Riverside Church AAU program from 1992-98, where he coordinated all scheduling and practices and coached boys and girls aged 8-19.Player has also worked as a scout for the Charlotte Bobcats of the NBA.
Player has also volunteered extensively in the community, working for the Wheelchair Charities Basketball Classic in organization and fundraising roles for GoldwaterHospital since 1993. Player received his bachelor’s degree in sports management from St. John’s in 2000.
