Geoff Billet is in his second season on head coach Bobby Gonzalez's staff in South Orange, and brings a distinct New Jersey flavor to the men’s basketball program. Billet’s experience as an assistant coach, college player and high school player in the state over the past 15 years gives Seton Hall a seasoned young coach with BIG EAST ties who has already developed strong relationships with key figures in New Jersey.
Billet came to Seton Hall from Monmouth University, where he was the assistant coach for the past five seasons. He played a key role in the areas of game preparation, recruiting in the metropolitan area, and player development. At Monmouth, he helped lead the Hawks to two Northeast Conference titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances, both in the last three years. Monmouth won more league games over the last five years than any other team in the NEC.
A 1999 graduate of Rutgers University, Billet finished his career with the Scarlet Knights ranked in the Top 10 in scoring with 1,480 career points. He was the all-time leading three-point shooter in RU history at the time of his graduation and was a two-year captain. He is third all-time at Rutgers in assists and second in three-pointers made. Billet was a three-time All-Metropolitan selection and the 1996 Met Freshman of the Year. At the time of his graduation, Billet was the only player in BIG EAST history to score 1,400 points, collect 250 assists and make 100 three-point field goals.
Billet began his coaching career in 1999 at Monmouth as an assistant for the 1999-00 season, then joined the Rutgers staff for the 2000-01 campaign before returning to Monmouth as the top assistant coach.
Billet, who was an all-state selection at Christian Brothers Academy in Lincroft, N.J., received his bachelor’s degree in economics from Rutgers.
