SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall head coach Bobby Gonzalez announced on Wednesday that three marquee recruits, Michael Glover (Bronx, N.Y.), Jeremy Hazell (Bronx, N.Y.) and Augustine Okosun (Benin City, Nigeria), have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Seton Hall University beginning in the 2007-08 academic year.
The signing of these three players combined with the additions of current impact freshmen Eugene Harvey, Larry Davis and Kashif Pratt further demonstrates what has been an aggressive and successful recruiting campaign since Gonzalez became head coach in April.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Glover is the gifted brother of former St. John’s standout Anthony Glover and will provide the Pirates with a strong rebounding presence and good finisher around the basket. Last season, he guided his prep school, Boys to Men Academy (Ill.), to a national championship.
“Glover is a warrior who will fit our style of play perfectly,” Gonzalez said. “He is a terrific addition to this class. He’s an undersized four man, but can also play some three. He is a deceptive player and a tough city kid who’s having a great year of prep under coach Tony Bergeron.”
The 6-foot-5, 185-pound Hazell was ranked in the nation’s Top 20 by Scout.com among post graduate players. A standout for coach Chris Chaney at Patterson School (N.C.), he is widely regarded as an excellent shooter and will provide the Pirates with great depth at the guard position and the top scoring punch in this class.
“I think Hazell will be a real gem in this year’s recruiting class,” Gonzalez said. “He’s a sleeper who is very long, athletic, can really score the ball and reminds me of former Seton Hall great John Morton. He has a huge upside and the potential to be an offensive force for us in the future. I think when the Seton Hall fans see him they’re going to get really excited.”
Augustine Okosun is a 6-foot-10, 240-pound junior college transfer who will have junior eligibility when he joins the Pirates next season. The Nigeria native comes from well-respected Harcum College (Pa.) and coach Drew Kelly and will add some much-needed size and experience to the Pirates’ frontcourt when seniors Grant Billmeier, Stan Gaines and Mani Messy graduate.
“Okosun is a terrific athlete who runs the floor extremely well and plays ninety-four feet,” Gonzalez said. “He is a quick big man with great discipline and tremendous upside. He’ll be a very important player for us in the future due to our lack of depth on the inside. The sky is the limit for him.”
