While at Hartford, Pompey was recognized as one of the top mid-major assistant coaches in the country by the Hoop Scoop from 2003 to 2006, while serving as the primary recruiting coordinator for the program. Pompey was also responsible for coaching the wing/forward positions and helped six players earn All-Conference accolades during his tenure.

Before joining the Hartford staff in 2000, Pompey spent eight years as the founder, director and head coach of the DC Stars AAU basketball program in Washington, D.C. Under his leadership, the DC Stars became nationally recognized as one of the premiere AAU programs in the country. From 1992 to 2000, Pompey and the DC Stars coached and developed over 100 athletes who moved on to play at the Division I level. In 1998, Pompey led the first 17-and-under team from Washington, D.C. to the championship game of the Bob Gibbon's Tournament of Champions in North Carolina. Two years later, the DC Stars took home the title at the 2000 Footstopper's Hoop Classic in Washington, D.C.

Pompey has been a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches since 2000 and has worked with programs such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Morgan Wooten Basketball Camps.
