Men's Golf Takes on the UCF Rio Pinar Invitational, Monday and Tuesday

ORLANDO, FLA. - The Seton Hall men's golf team will open tournament play in the 2012 spring season with the Rio Pinar Invitational, March 19-20, at the Rio Pinar Country Club in Orlando, Fla.

The teams will play 54 holes in all, with 36 holes being played on Monday, March 19 and a final 18 holes on Tuesday.  Fifteen teams will compete on the par-72 course, which measures to a distance of 7,001 yards.  Action gets underway at 8:15 a.m. with a shotgun start on Monday.  In addition to the Pirates, participating teams include:  the host UCF, Akron, Campbell, Cleveland State, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, George Mason, Houston Baptist, Loyola (Md.), Miami (Ohio), Northern Illinois, Stetson, Western Illinois and Wichita State.

Seton Hall performed well at this tournament last year.  Troy Spencer (High Point, N.C.) finished tied for 26th place among 96 individual golfers.  Florida Gulf Coast's Daniel Mazziotta won the individual title in the first hole of a playoff.  He finished with a 12-under-par, 65-69-70.

As a team, Seton Hall saved its best round for last.  It fired a 295 in the third round to finish with a 28-over-par, 301-296-295-892.  Three teams shot under par for the tournament with UCF, the event's host, winning the team title with a 23-under-par, 275-282-284-841.

(Weston, Fla.)Brandon Park had a strong tournament with a 4-over-par, 72-74-74-220.  Park finished just one stroke behind Spencer and tied for 28th place overall.

Results from the tournament's first two rounds will be available Monday night on www.SHUpirates.com.  Final tournament results will be available at the same location Tuesday evening.
