The Pirates (10-11) manufactured a run in the top of the second to take an early 1-0 lead on the Rams. Freshman Alex Rabbetts (Corona, Calif.) drew a leadoff walk and quickly moved up to third when Colorado State committed an error on a Maria DeLuca (Cedar Grove, N.J.) sacrifice attempt.
Sophomore Danielle DeStaso (Congers, N.Y.) brought Rabbett across the plate with a grounder to first, which allowed DeLuca to advance from second to third. Colorado State minimized the damage by retiring Seton Hall's next two batters to escape the jam.
A fielding error on the first play of the bottom of the second helped the Rams come back to tie the game. Kendal Butterfield led off the second and reached on a fielding error, eventually scoring an unearned run on a Chelsea Biglow RBI base hit into right center.
Colorado State (12-14) tacked on another run in the third. Shae Rodriguez singled to start the inning and eventually came home on a Danielle Wikre sacrifice fly.
The Rams' third run of the game came about in similar fashion to the first. Butterfield reached on an error to open the fourth and was eventually driven home by Biglow, this time on a sacrifice fly.
Freshman Yasmin Harrell (Cheektowaga, N.Y.) and sophomore Sara Haefeli (Montclair, N.J.) also recorded base hits for Seton Hall which finished with three hits on the day.l
DeStaso threw all six innings and allowed three runs on six hits, but just one of the scores was earned and she struck out three batters.
Seton Hall returns to action on Wednesday, March 20, when it faces Saint Peter's University in Jersey City, N.J., at 4 p.m.
