It is the second time in her career that DeStaso landed on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll; she was also recognized by the conference following the Pirates' opening weekend of competition last season.
DeStaso came up huge for Seton Hall offensively last weekend as the Pirates posted a 2-2 record at the Hampton Inn Campbell Stampede Tournament in Buies Creek, N.C.
Without question her biggest performance of the weekend came in Seton Hall's 12-5 season-opening victory over St. Bonaventure last Friday. DeStaso went 5-for-5 against the Bonnies with seven RBI, two doubles and a home run.
The five base hits, seven RBI and 11 total bases were all higher than any individual performance for Seton Hall all of last season. Making her game even more impressive, she also faced all but three batters as the Pirates' starting pitcher to pick up the victory, fanning 10 batters in seven innings of action.
DeStaso's other key performance of the week came in Seton Hall's 7-6 eight-inning loss to Campbell when she went 3-for-4 with a pair of extra base hits, her second home run of the season and a double, to go along with an RBI and two runs scored.
For the week her final stat line was a .692 batting average, going 9-for-13 at the plate, with five extra base hits, a 1.385 slugging percentage, .714 on base percentage and eight RBI.
The Seton Hall softball team will be off this week before resuming plate next Friday-Sunday, Feb. 22-24, when it heads down to Jacksonville, Fla., to compete in the Jacksonville University Invitational. The Pirates open tournament play on Friday when they face Delaware at 2 p.m., and Jacksonville, at 6:30 p.m.
