HALL RETURNS TO BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP

The Pirates earned the #12 seed and will be making their first BIG EAST Championship appearance since 2006-07 when they take on #5 Georgetown on Thursday. The winner will advance to a second round matchup with #4 DePaul. In 06-07, SHU posted a 2-1 record with wins over Cincinnati (4-2) and West Virginia (4-3) after a narrow opening round 4-3 loss to Connecticut. Defending champion Notre Dame enters the tournament as the top seed.

LOOKING FOR PAYBACK

Georgetown previously defeated SHU, 6-1, when the two teams met in Washington D.C. on April 6. At the time, it was the fourth straight loss for the Pirates. Chloe Sher scored the Seton Hall point by defeating Lauren Greco, the seventh-ranked player in the Atlantic region, in #1 singles. Also on the day, Sher and Rocio Portela recorded their 23rd win as a doubles team, moving them into first place in the SHU record book for most wins as a doubles pair.

PIRATES AIM TO HALT HOYAS' STREAK

Seton Hall has dropped three straight matches to GU, with its last win in the series coming in the Pirates' 2009 season finale. Seniors Courtney Kilarski and Elizabeth Verow were each in the lineup and are the only remaining members of the team from that day. Kilarski won her #6 singles match to clinch a 4-2 victory for The Hall.

SHER IN RARE FORM

Sophomore Chloe Sher has been an imposing presence from the top of the Pirates' singles lineup. She closed the year with five consecutive victories and a winner of 10 of her last 11 matches. Four of those wins came against players that were ranked either regionally or nationally, including a 6-1, 6-2 result over #108 Emily Harman of Syracuse in the team's final match of the regular season. Sher led the team in wins overall, recording 20 victories for the second straight year while going 8-1 in BIG EAST dual matches.

FRESHMEN FORCE

First-year team members Anna Guryanova, Maria Rodriguez and Madison Shoemaker have stepped right into the fold and established themselves as key components of the Pirates' success this season. The freshmen trio combined for 37 singles wins, with Rodriguez's 16 ranking as the second most on the team. Rodriguez also tied Sher for tops on the team with a .667 winning percentage. Guryanova came out on top in nine of her 14 appearances in singles competition (.642) to rank third while Shoemaker finished third on the squad with 12 individual wins.

SHU'S TOP PAIR

Sophomores Rocio Portela and Chloe Sher have already established themselves as one of the most dominant doubles teams in SHU history. The duo capped an exceptional season by winning 13 of their final 14 matches, with their only loss coming in the season finale against #57 Syracuse. Portela and Sher rewrote the SHU record book along the way, setting the school record for doubles wins in a season with 15 and moving into first on the career wins list as well.

DOUBLE UP

The doubles point has been a key aspect of matches for the Pirates, as SHU has come out on top in doubles in all seven of their victories this season. In total, Seton Hall has taken the doubles point nine different times this season, up from just five a year ago.
