SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Patrick Hobbs, Seton Hall Dean of the Law School, who has been overseeing the Athletics Department since July, announced today that Bobby Gonzalez will not return as head coach of the men's basketball program.  A national search for a replacement will begin immediately.

"Performance and success are not measured solely by wins and losses, but also in the conduct of those associated with the program," Hobbs said.  "We have expectations as to how our coaches and players will conduct themselves, and they are expected to treat everyone they interact with, whether officials, the press or our students, with the utmost respect, maturity and professionalism. Those core expectations must be met."

University President Monsignor Robert Sheeran communicated his decision Wednesday morning, stating "It is essential that all University leaders embody the ideals that make us all so proud of Seton Hall."

Gonzalez completed his Seton Hall tenure Tuesday with an 87-69 loss at Prudential Center to Texas Tech in the opening round of the 2010 NIT.  In four seasons, he amassed an overall record of 66-59 and a 29-45 mark in BIG EAST Conference games.  The Pirates did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament with Gonzalez at the helm.

Quinlan added "It became clear that a change is necessary to fulfill our University expectations."

Gonzalez was hired by Seton Hall in April of 2006 after seven seasons as head coach at Manhattan College.
