PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall sophomore Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Sunday.
Pope averaged 17.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 4.0 blocks per game in a pair of Seton Hall victories this week. Pope tied a career-high with 22 points and 18 rebounds in an 85-74 victory at Rutgers on Thursday. On Saturday at Providence, Pope tallied 13 points and 11 rebounds. The performances were double-doubles #11 and #12 this season. Overall, Pope averaged 11.1 rebounds per game this season becoming the first Pirate ever to lead the BIG EAST Conference in the category.
Also earning weekly honors, West Virginia's Da'Sean Butler was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Cincinnati's Lance Stephenson was named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Pope on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Carleton Scott of Notre Dame, Ashton Gibbs of Pittsburgh, D.J. Kennedy of St. John's and Dominique Jones of USF.
Pope and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, March 9 for the first round of the 2010 BIG EAST Championship in Madison Square Garden. Seton Hall, the #11 seed, will face #15 Providence at 7:00 p.m.
