Women’s Swimming And Diving Defeats Lafayette, Loyola; Loses To Georgetown In Quad Meet

BALTIMORE, MD. - The women's swimming and diving team combined to defeat Lafayette, 194-106, and Loyola, 182-118, however lost to BIG EAST rival Georgetown, 189-111, Saturday afternoon in Baltimore.  Following the meet, the women improved their 2009-10 record to 3-2.

 

Junior Brittany Henning (Batavia, Ill.) again led the way for the women's team with first place finishes in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke.  Freshman Brenna O'Keefe (Hyde Park, N.Y.) added a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley to her second place time in the 200-yard butterfly and third place time in the 100-yard butterfly.

 

Senior Natalie Toczylowski (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up a second place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle, a fourth place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, and a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle to earn important points for the Pirates. 

 

Sophomore Rose Virgilio (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) earned a third place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and a fourth place finish in the 100-yard freestyle, while classmate Kaley Swider (Galloway, N.J.) recorded a third place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke.

 

In the diving events, red-shirt sophomore Brittany Hervey (Bethpage, N.Y.) had her best day of the year picking up first place scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events.  Sophomore Kaitlyn Karl (Erie, Pa.) and senior Ashley Williams (Clearwater, N.J.) earned third place scores in the 1-meter and 3-meter events respectively.

 

The women's swimming and diving team will return home Tuesday afternoon when they face Iona at 5:00 p.m.
