SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -
The men's golf team will complete their 2009 fall season with The Match Play, hosted by DePaul University, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, at the Pine Needles Golf Course in Southern Pines, N.C.

The field is comprised of 11 BIG EAST schools who will all take on the challenging 7,011 yard par-71 course which has hosted three U.S. Women's Opens.  Seeding for the tournament was determined by each team's Golfstat ranking with the top five teams receiving first round byes.

T
he Pirates earned the #6 seed with a rating of 159 coming into the tournament.  Seton Hall will face #11-seeded USF in first round competition Friday.  The winner of that match will advance to take on #3 DePaul on Saturday.

Each team is comprised of six golfers with each member attempting to earn his respective team a point.  The golfers will be paired off based on their individual Golfstat ratings.  An outright win will net each golfer one point while a halved match will result in a half point awarded to each golfer.  A team must earn at least three and a half points to move on to the next round.  In the event of a 3-3 tie the win will be awarded to the team which won the most individual holes in the six rounds played.

Seton Hall is coming off a fourth place finish at the Lincoln Mercury Intercollegiate two weeks ago.  The Pirates fired a 33-over-par, 304-305-609, in the rain-shortened event on their home course.  Junior Borja Faixat (Barcelona, Spain), competing as an individual, had the top Seton Hall performance with a 4-over-par, 75-73-148.  The fifth place finish was the best of his career.

Junior Colin Van Es (Granger, Ind.) led the Pirates in team scoring with a 6-over-par, 78-72-150.  His performance placed him sixth among all individual golfers.

Through five fall tournaments, freshman Brandon Park (Cypress Bay, Fla.) is leading all Pirate regulars with a 74.92 stroke average.  Van Es is second on the team with a 75.10 average.
