SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The men's swimming and diving team lost to Rider, 155-143, Friday evening at the Arthur E. Imperatore Natatorium in South Orange. Despite the defeat, eight swimmers combined to earn BIG EAST Championship qualifying times in 14 events.
Junior Kevin Webster (Leawood, Kan.) recorded top qualifying times in the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyle and in the 200-yard individual medley. Classmate Kenny Pritchard (Castro Valley, Calif.) qualified for the conference championship with a first place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, while freshman Ryan O'Shaughnessy (Coral Springs, Fla.) picked up a fourth place finish in the same race with a qualifying time. O'Shaughnessy also added a first place qualifying time in the 200-yard breaststroke.
Senior Jason Benson (Overland Park, Kan.) earned a second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke and a third place time in the 200-yard backstroke - qualifying in each race
Junior John D'Errico (Syosset, N.Y.) provided critical points for the Hall with a first place finish in the 200-yard butterfly and a third place time in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior Stan Sadovski (Brooklyn, N.Y.) finished ahead of D'Errico in the 100-yard butterfly while adding more second place finishes in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle.
Freshman Austin Acheson (Olathe, Kan.) recorded a third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle and classmate Ian Keyser (Petersburg, N.J.) finished third in the 500-yard freestyle to round out the men's competition.
The men's swimming and diving team will return to action Saturday afternoon when they travel to Baltimore, Md. to compete against Lafayette, Loyola, and BIG EAST rival Georgetown. The meet is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
