CINCINNATI, OH. - Cincinnati broke open a one-goal halftime lead with three goals in the second half to defeat the Seton Hall women's soccer team, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Gettler Stadium. With the loss, the Pirates ended their 2009 regular-season 5-12-1 overall, 1-9-1 in the BIG EAST.
Despite five first half shots, two on goal for the Pirates, it was the Bearcats (8-10-1, 3-7-1) that struck in the 28th minute when Erin MacDonald beat starting goalkeeper Chelsea King (Fieldsboro, N.J.) with a shot following a pass from Julie Morrissey. It would be the only goal King allowed as she made three saves in forty-five minutes of work.
Kendall Loggins netted her shot in the 58th minute for the, 2-0, Bearcat lead, while Evi Ranson put the game away with Cincinnati's third goal in the 84th minute. The Pirates allowed an own goal in the 88th minute for the final score of the match.
In addition to their five shots in the first half, the Hall added four more in the second finishing with nine total. Junior Nicki Gross (Ermerson, N.J.) lead the way with three - two on goal, while classmate Shannon Desmond (Chandler, Az.) and red-shirt freshman Stephanie Soma (Franklin, Mass.) each had a shot on goal as well. Bearcat goalkeeper Andrea Kaminski turned aside all four shots on goal for the shutout.
After replacing King, freshman Jennifer Pettigrew (Kearny, N.J.) also made three saves in her forty-five minutes.
Fouls finished even at 12 while corner kicks ended 5-1 in favor of Cincinnati.
