LOUISVILLE, KY. - Kate Cunningham scored on a penalty kick in the 97th minute as the Seton Hall women's soccer team fell to Louisville, 3-2, in overtime Friday evening. Despite the loss, Pirates' sophomore Danielle Schulmann (Saddle River, N.J.) scored her team-leading fifth and sixth goals for the Hall.
Schulmann led the way in the first half for the Pirates as they took a, 2-1, lead into halftime. The Saddle River native tallied the first goal of the game in the 16th minute. Following a pass from red-shirt freshman Stephanie Soma (Franklin, Mass.), Schulmann took a shot from 12-yards that beat Cardinal goalkeeper Taylor Vancil to the lower left.
After Giselle Mangal tied the game in the 34th minute, Schulmann struck again from 12-yards into the lower left corner after a pass from junior Nicki Gross (Emerson, N.J.). It was Schulmann's third goal and seventh point in two games.
The Cardinals (5-11-0, 2-8-0), however, came out strong in the second half throwing 10 total shots toward the net including the game-tying goal by Lindsay Boling in the 59th minute. Despite the goal, Pirates goalkeeper Elizabeth Bond (Glenside, Pa.) remained strong in net making seven saves in the half bringing the game into overtime.
The Cardinals finished with 18 total shots while the Pirates (5-11-1, 1-8-1) recorded 11. Bond ended the game with eight saves, while her counterpart Vancil totaled three.
Louisville also finished the game leading in corner kicks 10-3.
The Pirates will complete their 2009 regular season schedule when they travel to Cincinnati for a match on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
