SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Junior guard Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) has been selected as one of 50 preseason candidates to receive the 2009-10 John R. Wooden Award All-American Team and Player of the Year Trophy. Hazell joins 10 other BIG EAST players up for the prestigious honors.

Hazell is coming off one of the greatest offensive seasons in Seton Hall basketball history. He averaged a conference second-best 22.7 points per game and became only the fifth player in Seton Hall history to record 1,000 career points in his first two seasons en route to being named a Third Team All-BIG EAST selection. Hazell broke a single-season school record with 290 three-pointers attempted and tied the school mark with 105 three-pointers made. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter scored 726 points last season, sixth-most in school history, and second-most by a Seton Hall sophomore.

In late December, the Wooden Award Committee will release the Midseason Top 30 list, followed in March by the National Ballot, consisting of approximately 20 top players who have proven to their universities that they are also making progress toward graduation and maintaining a cumulative 2.0 GPA. The Wooden Award All-American Team will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round during the NCAA Tournament.

The 34th annual Wooden Award ceremony, which will include the announcement of the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winner, and the presentation of the Wooden Award All-American Teams and the Legends of Coaching Award, will take place the weekend of April 9-11, 2010.
