Tambi Videos

Kazbek Tambi enters his sixth season at the helm of the women's soccer program after being named head coach in January of 2007. Tambi, who served as the assistant men's soccer coach for nine seasons prior to being named to his current position, is just the second head coach of the programs 18-year history.

Over his first five seasons at Seton Hall, Tambi has led Seton Hall to a 34-49-9 overall mark and a 13-37-5 record in BIG EAST action. The 2011 season saw the Pirates post a 9-8-3 overall mark and a 4-6-1 record against conference foes. The nine victories were the most for Seton Hall since 1999 and the Pirates qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament for the first time since 2006, defeating St. John's University 1-0 in the first round to advance to the BIG EAST quarterfinals.

Senior Taylor Wilson and sophomore Katie Ritter each earned All-BIG EAST second-team honors in 2011, marking the first time since 1999 SHU had a pair of players recieve All-BIG EAST accolades and the first time since 2003 the Pirates had second-team all-conference honorees.

Overall in five seasons at the helm, Tambi has coached four players to All-BIG EAST honors, including Megan Mills (2007, 2008) and Jennifer Pettigrew (2010). Additionally, Ritter earned a spot on the BIG EAST All-Rookie team in 2010.

Tambi brings a wide range of soccer experience to the women's program. He has been the Head Coach for the U16 Women's National Team since 2005, guiding them to several domestic and international competitions. Further, has also coached in the New Jersey Olympic Development Program, and served as the head coach for several prominent club teams, such as the Arsenal World Class Women's Team, which developed several national team players, including Yael Averbuch, a Herman Trophy Finalist (top honor in collegiate soccer), and the ACC player of the Year. In addition, he has served as the head coach of the New Jersey Stallions women's team in the USL W-League. Tambi holds a USSF "A" License, the highest level in the country.

In February of 2008, Tambi coached the Unites States National Under-17 women's soccer team to a 3-0 record. Along the way, Tambi's team defeated Australia, host nation New Zealand, and Germany en route to winning the Future Stars Tournament Championship.  Following that victory, the same squad led by Tambi won the CONCACAF Championship in July of 2008 to earn a berth into the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

On the heels of the CONCACAF Championship, Tambi led his team back into New Zealand in November of 2008 where the U-17 Women's National team earned a second place finish in the World Cup losing, 2-1, in double-overtime to North Korea.  Despite the second place finish, three of Tambi's players earned post-tournament awards including Best Goalkeeper, the Bronze Ball MVP, and the Silver Boot Top Scorer.

As a player Tambi was a member of the NASL's New York Cosmos during their final season in 1984 and then captained the squad during its international schedule in 1985.  Tambi also played professionally in the ASL for the New Jersey Eagles and for the Minnesota Strikers of the MISL. On the international stage, Tambi captained the United States team at the 1983 Pan-American Games in Caracas, Venezuela, and also served as a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team.

A 1983 graduate of Columbia University with a bachelor's degree in economics, Tambi led the Lions to the Final Four in 1979, captured four straight Ivy League crowns, was an All-Ivy League midfielder and served as team captain his senior year.

A native of Paterson, N.J., he earned his law degree from Seton Hall University Law School in 1990.
