Eugene Harvey Named BIG EAST's Top Rookie For Second Straight Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seton Hall freshman Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive week after averaging 20.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals in two Seton Hall victories last week.

 

Seton Hall swept the BIG EAST Rookie of the Week honors, as freshman Ashley Booker earned the same honor for the women's basketball team.

 

Harvey scored a career-high 27 points in a come-from-behind, 69-59, victory over Penn State on Saturday at Continental Airlines Arena.  He also pulled down five rebounds and dished out four assists while playing all 40 minutes.  To begin the week, Harvey chipped in 14 points in only 17 minutes of action in Seton Hall’s 83-49 win over Monmouth.

 

The 6-foot point guard is the new team leader with a 15.7 points per game average.  He also leads the team with 4.71 assists per game and his 2.42 steals per game rank sixth-best in the conference.

 

Also earning weekly honors, Notre Dame’s Russell Carter was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include: Kyle McAlarney of Notre Dame, Aaron Gray of Pittsburgh, McHugh Mattis of USF, Demetris Nichols of Syracuse and Alex Ruoff of West Virginia.

 

Harvey and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Friday, Dec. 15 when they host William Patterson at Walsh Gym in exhibition action.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  Seton Hall will resume their regular season schedule on Thursday, Dec. 21 when they face Virginia Tech at Madison Square Garden as a part of the Aeropostale Classic.  Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
