Eugene Harvey Named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Seton Hall freshman Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday after averaging 16.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and four steals in two Seton Hall victories last week.

 

Harvey scored seven of his 18 points in the overtime session of a gritty 93-82 victory over Saint Mary’s on Saturday at the Continental Airlines Arena.  He also pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, dished out five assists and recorded four steals.  To begin the week, Harvey had another all-around good performance in an 80-60 win over St. Peter’s with 15 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals.

 

The 6-foot point guard leads the team with 5.60 assists per game and ranks seventh in the BIG EAST Conference.  His 2.60 steals per game rank fourth-best in the conference.

 

Also earning weekly honors, DePaul’s Sammy Mejia was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  Members of the Weekly Honor Roll include: A.J. Price of Connecticut, Rob Kurz of Notre Dame, Aaron Gray of Pittsburgh, Weyinmi Efejuku of Providence and Curtis Sumpter of Villanova.

 

Harvey and the rest of the Pirates return to action tonight, December 4, when they host Monmouth at Continental Airlines Arena.  Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are available by calling 973-275-HALL.
