PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall sophomore Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men’s Basketball Weekly Honor Roll on Monday for the second consecutive week and third time overall this season.
Hazell had two strong performances in a week that saw Seton Hall run its win streak to four games with victories vs. St. John’s and at Rutgers. The 6-foot-5 guard scored a game-high 31 points in Seton Hall’s 91-81 victory over St. John’s on Thursday. It marked the sixth time this season that he has reached the 30-point plateau in a game. On Sunday, Hazell recorded a game-high 21 points and scored four of Seton Hall’s last five points in a 65-60 victory over Rutgers in Piscataway. The win was Seton Hall’s first road BIG EAST victory of the season.
It marks the third straight week that a Pirate was honored by the BIG EAST. Two weeks ago, junior Robert Mitchell was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
Also earning weekly honors, Connecticut’s Hasheem Thabeet was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Cincinnati’s Yancy Gates was named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Hazell on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Deonta Vaughn of Cincinnati, DeJuan Blair of Pittsburgh, Jonny Flynn of Syracuse and Dante Cunningham of Villanova.
Hazell and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Tuesday, February 10 when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to take on DePaul. Game time is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET and will be shown on ESPNU.
