NEWARK, N.J.Sophomore Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) poured in a career-high 35 points as the Seton Hall men’s basketball team toppled Fairleigh Dickinson, 101-70. The Pirates outscored the Knights (1-9) 57-33 after halftime to break open a tight game and improve to 9-3 heading into BIG EAST play.

Hazell scored 21 points in the first half and shot 15-of-26 for the game. Junior Robert Mitchell (Brooklyn, N.Y) recorded a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Junior Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also played a strong game with 15 points, six boards, and six assists.

Hazell knocked down a falling runner from the right corner to highlight a 9-0 run, giving SHU a 19-10 lead. FDU scored the next nine points to tie the score with 10:55 in the half, but back-to-back layups from Harvey put the Pirates on top, 23-19, just 50 seconds later.

Senior Paul Gause (Pittsgrove, N.J.) pulled down a defensive rebound and found a streaking Harvey for a lay-in to push the lead to nine with 14 seconds left. At the other end of the floor, Sean Baptiste hit a pull-up jumper as the horn sounded to make it 44-37 into the intermission.

Five quick points from Hazell jump-started a 17-2 run over the first five minutes of the second half. With 8:50 left in the game, Hazell came up with a steal and took it in for a slam to give Seton Hall its biggest lead of the game, 79-46, and the Pirates coasted for the victory.

Baptiste finished with 31 points and nine rebounds to lead the Knights. Seton Hall outrebounded FDU 29-13 in the second half and finished with a 49-30 edge on the boards. The Pirates scored 30 points off 20 turnovers.

Seton Hall opens up its conference slate at Syracuse on December 30. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
