Guillermo "Memo" Valencia begins his first season as an assistant coach with the Seton Hall University men's soccer team and will work primarily with the Pirates' goalkeepers.

Holding both a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) "A" License and a USSF Goalkeeping License, Valencia has coached at the youth club, collegiate, and national level.

He was the goalkeeping coach for the United States Men's National Team (USMNT) U17 squad from 2009-11, and he served as the USMNT U18 goalkeeping coach in 2012.

Valencia was the goalkeeping coach at Columbia University from 2002-05, and again in 2011. In between he held the same position for the women's soccer team at New York University from 2007-10. He has also worked with goalkeepers at the New York Cosmos Academy since 2007 and at the New York Soccer Club since 2009.

Valencia's professional career spanned 16 years and included stints in Colombia, Mexico and the United States. He played six seasons (1990-95) with America De Cali in Cali, Colombia, and was with Deportivo Pereira from 1995-01, winning the Professional Colombian Soccer Association league championship in 2000.

In 2001 Valencia was a goalkeeper for Potros Marte in Mexico City, Mexico, before resuming his career in the United States. He played for the Westchester Flames in the USL Pro-League from 2003-04, and the Long Island Rough Riders in 2005.
