NEW YORK, N.Y. The Seton Hall men’s basketball team fell to No. 24 Marquette, 67-54, in the opening round of the BIG EAST Championship at Madison Square Garden. The Pirates (17-15) were outrebounded 56-37 and shot just 33.9 percent from the floor in the defeat.

Sophomore Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting and had seven assists. Senior Jamar Nutter (Bloomfield, N.J.) finished with 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Junior Augustine Okosun (Benin City, Nigeria) provided a spark off the bench, scoring six straight points to put Seton Hall ahead, 16-13, with 12:23 left in the first half. The Pirates were able to hold the lead over the next several minutes, but a second chance lay-in from Jerel McNeal jump-started an 11-2 run to give Marquette a 34-29 edge at the break.

Nutter pulled Seton Hall to within two points after a three-pointer at the 15:39 mark to make it, 41-39. Marquette built its lead back up to six when the Pirates started to make another charge.

Harvey hit a pair of free-throws to cut the deficit to 52-51, but Seton Hall was outscored 15-3 in the final 7:36, as the Golden Eagles advanced to the Quarterfinals of the BIG EAST Championship.
