PROVIDENCE
, R.I.
– Seton Hall men’s basketball freshman Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week; it was announced on Monday.  The 6-foot-5 guard led all BIG EAST players in scoring last week averaging 25.5 points and 3.0 steals in two Pirates victories.

It is the first time Hazell has received this honor from the conference.

On Thursday, Seton Hall defeated USF for their first BIG EAST victory of the season, 74-64.  Hazell led all scorers with 22 points, while adding two rebounds and a career-high four steals.  In Seton Hall’s thrilling, come-from-behind victory over Louisville on Saturday, Hazell scored a career-high 29 points on the strength of 8-for-14 shooting from three-point range.  His eight made three-pointers ranks second all-time at Seton Hall for most in a single-game.

For the season, Hazell ranks third on the team with 12.2 points per game.  He is also averaging 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game.

Villanova’s Scottie Reynolds was named BIG EAST Player of the Week.  Members of this week’s Weekly Honor Roll include: Georgetown’s Roy Hibbert, Louisville’s Terrence Williams, Providence’s Dwain Williams, Syracuse’s Jonny Flynn and West Virginia’s Da’Sean Butler.

Hazell and the rest of the Pirates will return to action at Providence on Thursday, January 24.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
