NEWARK, N.J. - Senior Jamar Nutter (Bloomfield, N.J.) erupted for a career-high 29 points as the Seton Hall men's basketball team wrapped up non-conference play with an 89-81 win over Morgan State. Nutter shot 10-of-15 from the floor and pulled down six rebounds in 36 minutes off the bench.

Senior Brian Laing (Bronx, N.Y.) had 20 points, and is now eight shy of becoming the 34th player to score 1,000 career points. Sophomore Eugene Harvey (Brooklyn, N.Y.) played an efficient game, scoring 12 points, going 6-for-6 from the foul line and handing out eight assists.

Nutter scored seven points during a 14-4 run to put the Pirates (10-4) ahead, 22-12, just 8:10 into the game. The Bears (6-7) cut the Seton Hall lead to, 30-27, but the Pirates rattled off eight straight to jump out to an 11-point advantage, and went into the break up, 42-35.

In the second half, Harvey found Nutter for a layup to cap an 8-2 spurt that put Seton Hall on top, 56-41, with 16:08 to play. Morgan State rallied and came within six, but a Mike Davis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) slam put the Pirates back on top by 10 as Seton Hall maintained a comfortable cushion the rest of the way.

Jamar Smith scored a team-high 28 points, and grabbed 12 boards for the Bears.

The Pirates shot 50.8 percent from the field, compared to 36.8 percent for Morgan State. Seton Hall scored 18 points off only 10 forced turnovers.

Prior to the game, Seton Hall learned that junior guard Paul Gause (Pittsgrove, N.J.) will miss at least 2-to-3 weeks do to a broken bone in his non-shooting hand (right).  Gause suffered the injury during the second half of the Connecticut game on Thursday.

Seton Hall hits the road to face Marquette in Milwaukee, Wisc. on Tuesday, January 8, at 9:00 p.m.
