PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall sophomore Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) was named to the BIG EAST Conference Men's Basketball Weekly Honor Roll for the second straight week on Monday.
Pope averaged 18.5 points and 17.5 rebounds in a pair of Seton Hall victories last week. Pope had a career-high 22 points and 15 rebounds in an 86-68 victory over UMass last Monday. In Saturday's "score-a-thon" vs. VMI (134-107 win), Pope recorded his sixth double-double of the year with 15 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. His 20-board performance is the most in a single-game since Eddie Griffin pulled down 21 vs. Saint Peter's on Nov. 27, 2000. For the season, the 6-foot-8 power forward is averaging a double-double with 14.6 points and a BIG EAST-leading 12.8 rebounds per game.
Also earning weekly honors, Georgetown's Greg Monroe was named BIG EAST Player of the Week, while Cincinnati's Lance Stephenson was named Rookie of the Week. Those joining Pope on the Weekly Honor Roll include: Hamady Ndiaye of Rutgers, D.J. Kennedy of St. John's, Rick Jackson of Syracuse and Kevin Jones of West Virginia.
Pope has helped guide the Pirates to a perfect 8-0 record, which is the team's best start since the 1988-89 that won its first 13 games to begin the year. Seton Hall is currently one of only 11 unbeaten teams in the nation.
Pope and the rest of the Pirates will return to action on Saturday, Dec. 19 when they host Temple at Prudential Center. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
