NEWARK, N.J - Sophomore guard Jamel Jackson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored 40 points off the bench as the Seton Hall men's basketball team shattered a number of single-game records in a 134-107 triumph over VMI on Saturday. The Pirates are now 8-0 to start the season.

The 134 points scored by SHU is the most scored in a single-game in the program's 105-year history. The 241 points scored by both teams is the highest combined total as well.

Jackson broke the Seton Hall single-game record by hitting 12 three-pointers, previously held by Shaheen Holloway, and scored his points on 14-of-17 shooting. Jackson is also the first player to score 40 points in a game since Terry Dehere notched 41 against St. John's on February 17, 1993. Jackson was three treys shy of tying the NCAA's single-game mark.

Junior Jeremy Hazell (Harlem, N.Y.) also had a lights out performance, netting 33 points on the strength of 6-of-11 shooting behind the arc. Hazell also grabbed a career high 12 rebounds for the second double-double of his career.  He also dished out five assists and recorded four steals.

Hazell and Jackson are the first duo to score 30+ points in the same game since John Allen and Andre Barrett each dropped 30 against St. Peter's on February 9, 2003.

Jackson hit three of his trifectas in a 3:44 span to give the Pirates a 34-20 cushion with 9:18 to go in the first half. Sophomore Jordan Theodore (Englewood, N.J.) found Jackson again off an inbounds pass to put SHU on top 61-37 with 2:53 remaining before the break.

The Keydets (4-5) wrapped up the half on a 12-3 run to close the gap to 64-51 at the half, and Stephen Sargent opened up the second half with a dunk to trim the margin to 11.

The Pirates answered by rattling off 10 straight, keyed by two three-pointers by Jackson and Hazell and never led by less than 19 points the rest of the way.

The Pirates out-rebounded VMI, 54-40, and recorded more than 50 boards for the second straight game. SHU also dished out a season-high 33 assists, and shot 57.8 percent from the field and a scorching 57.1 percent from downtown.

Sophomore Herb Pope (Aliquippa, Pa.) filled the stat sheet once again with his sixth double-double of the year. The 6-8 forward scored 15 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds.

The Pirates will face off against Temple on Saturday, December 19, at 7:00 p.m. at Prudential Center.
