SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - Junior Ebonie Williams (Hagerstown, Md.) and sophomore Kandice Green (Baltimore, Md.) each scored 16 points as the Seton Hall women's basketball team cruised to a 76-52 win over Arkansas State in the consolation round of the Anaconda Sports "The Rock" Seton Hall Classic.
Green also added 11 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double, as well as a career-high four steals. Two other Pirates (3-1) were also in double figures, as senior Nicole Emery (Baldwin, N.Y.) and freshman Terry Green (Bridgewaters, N.Y.) netted 10 points each. Shania Hurst paced the Red Wolves (2-3) with 16 points.
Seton Hall wasted little time in taking control of the contest, grabbing a 16-8 lead by the 13:39 mark on a fast break lay up from sophomore Shanai Heber (Paterson, N.J.). The lead reached double figures for the first time when she again scored on the break, making it 24-13 with 10:48 left.
Kandice Green buried a jumper three and a half minutes later as the Pirates pushed out to a 35-15 advantage. Senior Letitia Curry (Pennsauken, N.J.) closed the half with an offensive rebound and put back to give the Hall a 46-24 lead at halftime.
Arkansas State could not mount a serious threat, getting no closer than 18 in the second half.
Curry finished with six points to go along with 10 rebounds, while Heber contributed eight points, five rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
The Pirates shot a season-best 50.8 percent from the floor while limiting the Red Wolves to 33.3 percent. Seton Hall finished with a 43-27 edge on the glass and forced 19 turnovers.
Seton Hall is back in action on Tuesday at Rhode Island with tip-off set for 5:00 p.m.
