LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Seton Hall used a dominant performance in the second half to come away with a 63-49 win at Rider in the 2009-10 season opener.  The Pirates (1-0) were led by junior Ebonie Williams (Hagerstown, Md) with 18 points.

After Rider took the lead in the early minutes, the Hall tied things up on a three-point play by Williams at the 15:49 mark, making it 6-6.  Two minutes later, consecutive buckets from Emery gave the Pirates their first lead of the season at 10-9.

With the Broncs back in front by one, Seton Hall put together a 10-0 run, highlighted by a three-pointer from freshman Terry Green (Bridgewaters, N.Y.), over the next the next four minutes and 43 seconds to grab a 20-11 advantage.

Rider responded quickly, as a three-point play from Cintella Spotwood sparked a spurt for the home team.  A backdoor layup for Tammy Meyers at the 6:40 mark evened the score at 20, capping a 9-0 run.  Kandice Green stemmed the tide with a jump hook for the Pirates, and a driving bucket by sophomore Shanai Heber (Paterson, N.J.) made it 24-20 with 4:11 left in the first half.

With the Pirates leading by two, Williams drilled a triple from the right wing to make it 31-26 with two minutes to go.  The Hall carried a 33-29 lead into intermission behind 11 points from Williams.

An 8-3 run out of the break gave Rider a 37-36 edge before Emery scored inside to put the Pirates back up with 16:10 on the clock.  With the game knotted at 40, Terry Green hit a transition jumper, and her three-pointer with 9:51 left capped an 8-0 run as the Hall regained command.

Spotwood sank a three-pointer to bring Rider back within three, but Emery answered with a spin move for a score, making it 50-45 with 7:35 remaining.  The Pirates began taking control, using a three-pointer and transition score from Williams to grab a 60-47 edge with just under three minutes to play.  Free throws down the stretch secured the 14-point Hall victory.

The Pirates forced 25 turnovers, using a tenacious defensive effort to push the Broncs aside.  Terry Green had three steals out of the Hall's 12.  SHU also closed with a 42-37 edge on the glass.

The Pirates are back in action on Monday night at Marshall, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
